He produced a commanding performance to outclass a strong field of athletes who descended on the former mining town for the 2026 edition of the annual race. Too, who is based in Mmankgodi, once again demonstrated his class as he crossed the finish line ahead of his rivals to retain the title he won last year.
His victory came after a tactical race in which he maintained a steady pace before pulling away from the chasing pack to secure back-to-back crowns.
The experienced runner said he was delighted to defend his title, particularly because this year's race attracted a much stronger and fitter field than previous editions.
'I am very happy to defend my title because this year the competition was much tougher. There were many strong and fit runners, so winning again means a lot to me,' Too said shortly after the race.
The Kenyan stated that the marathon has a good course, saying it allowed athletes to perform at their best despite the demanding nature of the marathon.
'The running course was very good. I have struggled with injuries this year and I have not been running well, so I am grateful to come here and win despite those challenges,' he said.
Meanwhile, Botswana's Refilwe Galeitsiwe emerged victorious in the women's category after an impressive front-running display.
The 31-year-old national long-distance star dictated the pace for much of the race, signalling her intentions from the start before holding off a late challenge from her closest rival.
Galeitsiwe, who earlier this year set a national record during the BTC Marathon, admitted the closing stages of the race tested both her physical and mental strength.
'There was a moment when the runner in second place caught up with me and I became emotional. But I kept telling myself that I could not let the victory slip away just like that,' she said.
Her determination eventually paid off as she broke away again to cross the finish line first and add another major title to an already impressive season.
The Orange Phikwe National Marathon attracted runners from several neighbouring countries, with athletes competing across various race categories over the weekend.
Despite several logistical challenges, Orange Botswana Communications and Public Relations manager, Tebogo Nadisah said the event continues to grow in stature, attracting elite competitors while also promoting fitness, tourism and community participation in Selebi-Phikwe.
It is reported that this year's edition attracted a record 2,700 participants. Nadisah said Orange sees the event as part of its broader commitment to community development, digital inclusion and helping revive Selebi-Phikwe's economy activity.
