Zambian Giants Nkana Set for Botswana Test in Inaugural Tati River Cup

Record league champions to sharpen their edge in Francistown pre-season showdown. The Tati River Cup will be contested over the course of a single day on Friday 8 August in Francistown and will see the Zambia giants take on three Botswana Premier League opponents: Township Rollers, TAFIC Sporting Club and Tonota FC. Whilst many would regard this tournament as nothing more than a glorified friendly, Nkana's management see it as another chance to put themselves under the microscope and assess their chances ahead of the club's 2026-27 campaign.
Visiting Botswana won't just be a One Day Event for Nkana
Nkana will first spend time at their training camp in Zambia before traveling to Botswana for their tour, which will include more than just the Tati River Cup. Upon their arrival, the Copper Kings will take part in a series of friendly matches to test out some schemes and alignments before linking up with Township Rollers, Tonota FC and TAFIC Sporting Club for the tournament proper. That apart from the three sides competing in the inaugural Tati River Cup tournament, every preseason match matters for Nkana FC. Having won thirteen league titles and dominated Zambian football for decades, Nkana know what it takes to be successful – standards are set high at Nkana, and they demand commitment and winning throughout the entire squad. Pre-season friendlies are no different. Die-hard fans will watch every move and play, and dissect every decision at betting sites in Botswana. Players will be expected to go out there and perform, gain match fitness and improve upon teammates while also laying down a marker that Nkana will be yet again difficult to beat come the new season.

By no means will these teams know much about their opponents, the Copper Chiefs, but that will not matter when matches kick off – both sides will be looking to take something from the game, and with all four clubs looking to start their seasons brightly, it promises to be an entertaining tournament. 'This is not a friendly tournament.' Those were the words from Nkana FC upon confirming their attendance at the tournament. Posting on their official Facebook page, the club made it clear that, no matter the opposition, Nkana never take their football lightly and will approach every match with a desire to win – laying down a marker they will carry into the Tati River Cup tournament.
Botswana vs Zambia – New Rivals or Neighbors Helping Neighbors?
Building new relationships with clubs across Southern Africa is important if the region is to improve and help each other grow. Organizers hope the tournament will help grow the domestic game in both Zambia and Botswana as fans get to see the best of both countries battling it out for silverware. Francistown will also welcome tourists from Zambia who will no doubt visit their surrounding areas and support the local economy – a win-win for everyone.

As Nkana embark on their pre-season, every move and decision even in the preseason, will be heavily scrutizined by pundits and the passionate fan base.
