Otse man charged with rape after alleged attack on sisters

The alleged incident occurred at around 1am when a 20-year-old woman and her 34-year-old sister were walking to a nearby shebeen to buy alcohol. According to police, the two met the suspect on the way, who pounced on them in an attack.
Confirming the incident, Mahalapye-Central Acting Police Station Commander, Assistant Superintendent Malakia Gabana, said the suspect first assaulted the older sister, striking her with a stone before grabbing the younger woman and dragging her to an unoccupied unfinished house.
'He assaulted the older sister, hit her with a stone, then forcibly dragged the 20-year-old victim to an unfinished house where he allegedly raped her,' Gabana said.
The older sister managed to escape and reported the matter to the police. Gabana said officers, assisted by Community Policing volunteers, immediately launched a search for the suspect.
'With the help of Community Policing volunteers, we managed to locate and arrest the suspect the same night whilst he was roaming around the village,' he said.
Gabana further revealed that after the suspect's arrest, police searched his residence in Otse village, where they allegedly discovered suspected stolen property concealed inside the house.
Investigations into both the rape case and the suspected stolen goods are continuing. The suspect was arraigned before Mahalapye Magistrate's Court on Monday.
