Teams intensify new season preparations

As result, there has been lots of movement in the transfer market with Premier League giants, Mochudi Centre Chiefs, Morupule Wanderers and Nico United being the busiest with significant new signings. Magosi in particular, have made their intentions clear about their return to the top with the acquisition of amongst others, Mpho Kgaswane from Gaborone United as well Mosha Gaolaolwe and Omphile Vissage from Township Rollers.
The Kgatleng giants started their pre-season training recently with head coach, Moguel Corral Torreira, looking to try out new combinations ahead of the start of the season.
Chiefs have since been confirmed as one of the sides that will take part in the Jwaneng Mine GM’s Soccer Fiesta from July 31 to August 2 at Galaxy stadium.
They will face off against other Premier League giants, Jwaneng Galaxy and Gaborone United (GU). The three local sides will be joined by Namibian side, African Stars.
While Chiefs will use the tournament as preparation for domestic competitions, GU and Galaxy on the other hand, will be venturing into Africa and the tournament will serve as an indicator for their preparedness in that regard.
GU will represent the country in the CAF Champions League while Galaxy will try their luck in the CAF Confederations Cup after winning the Orange FA Cup last season.
At Palapye stadium on Saturday, Morupule Wanderers will also be able to test their readiness for the coming season during a friendly match against Zambian side, Nkana FC.
Wanderers have completely overhauled their technical team with Pontsho Moloi leading the bench. They have also made several new signings as they look to improve on their top eight finish last season.
A match against the Zambian giants will give them a chance to test their mettle. Nkana FC will feature in a tournament a week later against three local sides, Rollers, TAFIC and Tonota FC.
This past week, Sua Flamingoes played two friendly matches against First Division south sides, Thamaga Shooting Stars and Dinare. Dinare will also play a friendly match against Rollers this Saturday at Buffalo Park in Ramotswa.
Meanwhile in Lobatse over the weekend, Extension Gunners held their annual general meeting and ushered in a new executive committee.
The Peleng giants miraculously survived relegation in the last few games last season after struggling to find a winning formula for the better part of the season. The new committee is led by chairperson, Tshepang Orekeng.
