Botswana youth awards open for entries

The awards, organised by the ReMmogo Foundation, were officially launched last week as part of the organisation's continued efforts to recognise and empower young people making meaningful contributions to Botswana's development.
The event director, Kagiso Morebodi, explained that the initiative is part of the Foundation's 2026–2030 Strategic Plan on youth engagement, empowerment and development.
He said the awards are designed to acknowledge Botswana's talented, innovative and dedicated youth who continue to excel in different sectors while contributing to national development.
'The Botswana Youth Awards seek to recognise and reward dynamic young people who have distinguished themselves in various fields of human endeavour and whose contributions continue to shape the country's future,' Morebodi said during the launch.
This year's programme features 20 award categories covering entrepreneurship, innovation, technology, environmental sustainability, social impact, arts and culture, media, leadership and community service, amongst others.
Some of the flagship categories include Youth Entrepreneur of the Year, Youth in Tech and Digital Innovation, Youth in Green Economy and Climate Action, as well as several special spotlight awards aimed at recognising exceptional achievements.
Entries officially opened on Friday and will close on August 24, giving aspiring nominees and those wishing to nominate deserving young people just over a month to submit their applications.
The Botswana Youth Awards & Festival have become one of the country's leading platforms for celebrating youth excellence, while also providing opportunities for networking, mentorship and collaboration among young innovators, entrepreneurs, creatives and professionals.
Delivering keynote address, Lion Tutoring CEO, Thobo Khathola described Botswana's young people as the country's greatest asset, saying investment in human capital remains essential to achieving sustainable economic growth.
Drawing from his own experience as a two-time Botswana Youth Awards recipient, he encouraged young people to become solution-driven leaders capable of addressing the country's economic challenges through innovation, technology and entrepreneurship.
Khathola urged young professionals to embrace ethical leadership and build sustainable businesses that create long-term employment opportunities rather than focusing solely on short-term success.
The 7th edition of the Botswana Youth Awards & Festival is scheduled to take place in December in Gaborone, where winners across the 20 categories will be honoured for their outstanding contributions to their respective fields.
