Opracon celebrates 10 years, unveils ambitious expansion plans

Speaking during Opracon's 10th anniversary celebrations, Hore reflected on the company's evolution since its establishment in July 2016, revealing that what began as a technology firm has since diversified into human resources, skills development, and academy services under the Opracon brand.
'We started as a tech firm. Today we have expanded into HR and recently launched Skills and Academy because business is about evolving to meet the needs of the market,' he said.
Whilst the business now operates several divisions, Hore stressed that they all remain under a single registered company.
'Our divisions are not separate companies. Opracon remains one active company because we want continuity. “We don't want people to think every new service is a completely different business,' he said.
From humble beginnings operating out of a family home, Hore recounted how he and his small team transformed a bedroom into an office each morning by standing the bed upright before sending dozens of marketing emails daily in search of clients.
'For almost two months nobody responded,' he recalled.
When the breakthrough eventually came, Hore accepted a contract worth just P150 despite believing the work was worth considerably more.
'I did the work anyway because I understood the value of building credibility. That was the beginning,' he said.
A decade later, Opracon employs staff members across Botswana and Zimbabwe, with offices in Gaborone and Maun. Hore acknowledged his leadership team, saying the company's growth would not have been possible without empowering others.
'I don't run everything. The people leading our teams drive this business every day,' Hore said.
Today the company serves an extensive portfolio of clients, including 17 Botswana Stock Exchange-listed companies, seven of the country's commercial banks, telecommunications firms, state-owned enterprises and private sector organisations.
Amongst the organisations Opracon has worked with are FNB Botswana, Access Bank Botswana, Cresta Hotels, Botswana Telecommunications Corporation, Orange Botswana, BotswanaPost, Botswana Investment and Trade Centre, Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency, Botswana Public Officers Pension Fund, Botswana Power Corporation and numerous other public and private institutions.
Looking ahead, Hore revealed plans to reposition the business by investing in the financial services sector after years of focusing on property investments.
'I only recently discovered the opportunities available through structured financing and realised that financial services offer significantly better returns than what we've been achieving through property rentals,' he said.
To raise capital for the next phase of growth, Opracon has begun selling some of its property portfolio, including residential plots and houses in various locations.
'We're offloading 50% of our properties because we want to redirect that capital into a new financial services venture. “We believe this is where the future lies,' he said.
Despite the expansion plans, Hore maintained that the company's greatest achievement remains the trust it has earned over the past decade.
'You cannot build a business without people who support you. Our clients, partners, and staff have carried us through these 10 years. The next chapter is about building on that foundation whilst creating even greater value for Botswana,' Hore said.
As Opracon enters its second decade, the company says it intends to continue expanding its service offering whilst remaining committed to innovation, skills development, and delivering solutions that support businesses across Botswana and the region.
