Detective Mjein releases single titled Baba Ngiyacela

Mjein crafted the song as a tribute to his cousin Thabo Solomon. “Last year in September 2025, I lost my cousin Thabo Solomon. The song is a tribute to him,” he explained. The title “Baba Ngiyacela” means “Modimo re a kopa: God, we are asking.”
In the track, Lucia Dottie’s smooth crooning forms the body of the song, while Mjein’s raspy vocals drive the emotional core. During his verse, Mjein adopts a Kwaito-inspired cadence and delivery as he laments to God. The production, handled by Emjoe Records and Dj Skizoh BW in Mogoditshane, creates an atmospheric and gentle feel. Mjein explained that he wanted to bring “a new melody so that my supporters out there can be surprised by it.”
He involved Lucia Dottie after seeing her on television. “I was watching Btv when I saw a video of Culture Spears featuring Lucia Dottie. I liked her style, so I called her and asked for a collaboration on a House 3-Step song and she agreed,” Mjein recalls.
The song carries a spiritual message centred on turning to God. “The song has a message because it talks about God, so many people out there vibe with the track and they like it,” he noted. Since its YouTube release, it has received positive early feedback in local bars and clubs, with some listeners initially mistaking the Botswana production for a South African release. “I have already dropped it on YouTube. Most people have welcomed it and some DJs are playing it in the bars,” Mjein added. This release marks an effort by the artist to bring something fresh to his House Kwasa sound, with more new music expected later in 2026.
