He encouraged those who have not been training to take part in the 60 Days to 60 Botswana Celebrities and 60 Years of Independence Challenge. Speaking to MmegiSport, Leshomo said the initiative is aimed at helping people who have fallen out of their fitness routines or have never fully embraced an active lifestyle. 'This is a comeback challenge. If you have not been training for the last three years, this is for you. 'It is an opportunity to transform your body, build your confidence and create a lifestyle that you can sustain into the future. Fitness is life,' he added.
The challenge, which runs from August 1 to September 30, will accommodate 60 participants aged between 18 and 65.
Participants will train for 60 minutes, three times a week, with organisers placing as much emphasis on discipline and commitment as they do on physical results.
'We are screening for attitude. We want people who are positively driven, enthusiastic, willing to take instructions and committed to the process,' Leshomo explained.
'We are looking to kick-start someone's fitness journey or help someone make a successful comeback.'
Participants will undergo body composition assessments before the programme begins, whilst workouts will gradually progress from walking and stretching to jogging, resistance training, swimming, mountain hikes and other endurance exercises.
Medical personnel and first aid teams will also be on hand throughout the programme.
A total prize pool of P27,500 has been set aside, with the overall winner walking away with P10,000. However, Leshomo said the real objective extends beyond the cash rewards.
'The money is exciting, but what we really want is for people to continue training even after the 60 days are over,' he said.
The challenge requires a P3,500 participation fee, which includes branded merchandise. Defending the cost, Leshomo argued that investing in fitness is far less expensive than dealing with preventable health problems later in life.
'Going to the gym is more affordable than going to the hospital. Exercise buys you time and improves your quality of life,' he added.
Registration is open until July 31 at the Super 5 Football Centre in Molapo Crossing, where prospective participants are required to register in person.
As Botswana celebrates six decades of nationhood, Leshomo believes the challenge presents an opportunity for Batswana to invest in themselves whilst embracing healthier lifestyles.
'This is for Botswana. We are celebrating a huge milestone. Come and have fun, transform your life, build your confidence, and stand a chance to win some money. This is all for you.'
