Organised by TM Media, the wellness event is expected to bring together families, the corporate sector, government officials and members of the diplomatic community to celebrate healthy living and active ageing.

Taking place during the month in which Botswana marks its 60th Independence Anniversary, the walk also embodies the spirit of the national celebrations. In recognition of this milestone, special participation packages will be offered to individuals born in 1966, the year Botswana attained independence.

Joining Minister Mohwasa as VIP walkers will be Assistant Minister of Health, Lawrence Ookeditse; the Minister of Agriculture and Lands, Dr Edwin Dikoloti; and the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Batiraishe Henry Mukunoweshuro. An invitation has also been extended to the First Lady, Mrs Kaone Boko, to attend the event as Guest of Honour. At the same time, the Minister of Sport and Arts, Jacob Kelebeng, is also expected to attend.

The Beyond 40: Stride by Stride Walk promotes healthy lifestyles, with particular emphasis on adults aged 40 and above. While life after 40 is often associated with new opportunities and experiences, it is also a stage when the risk of many non-communicable diseases begins to increase. As such, the event seeks to encourage regular physical activity, healthy living and preventive healthcare, while welcoming participants of all ages to walk in solidarity for the cause.

In addition to promoting wellness, the event will have a strong social impact, with a portion of the proceeds to be donated to support survivors of gender-based violence through a beneficiary or shelter to be announced.

The organisers of the event, TM Media, said the occaassion was set up to inspire healthier lifestyles while fostering community engagement. 'Beyond 40 was born out of the need to create a wellness platform that specifically encourages people aged 40 and above to prioritise their health. However, this is a walk for everyone. We encourage families, friends, colleagues and people of all ages to come together, support one another and be part of a meaningful initiative that promotes healthier communities while giving back to those in need ,' the organisers further stated. The organisers also called on the business community to support the initiative. 'We invite the corporate sector to partner with us in making the inaugural Beyond 40: Stride by Stride Walk a success. This is an opportunity to demonstrate a commitment to employee wellness, community development and corporate social responsibility, while participating in what promises to be an enjoyable and memorable event.'

Participants will be able to choose from 10km, 5km and 2.5km walking routes, making the event accessible to walkers of varying fitness levels. Further details on registration, participation packages, the walk route and the programme will be announced in due course.
