Preliminary investigations indicate that the front section of the truck had already passed the pedestrian before he was struck by the trailer.
The incident was confirmed by Mogoditshane Police Station acting commander, Superintendent Mompoloki Ramaphoi.
'It appears that the head of the truck had already passed and the deceased was hit by the trailer. The driver was unaware of the collision until he was located parked at a nearby filling station,' he said.
Following the tragic accident, Police have arrested the driver, a 32-year-old Motswana man, on the same night. He has since been charged with causing death by careless driving.
Ramaphoi added that investigations into the fatal accident are continuing and the suspect is expected to appear before the Broadhurst Magistrate's Court soon.
He appealed to motorists to remain vigilant and exercise caution at all times whilst on the road. Ramaphoi also urged pedestrians to stay alert, observe traffic, and use roads responsibly to help prevent avoidable accidents.
