All nine Lechana Bus crash victims laid to rest

All the victims were Batswana and they comprised three males and six females with the youngest being a six-month-old infant, making the tragedy even more devastating for the affected families.
The fatal accident occurred on Sunday night when a northbound passenger bus travelling from Gaborone struck a cow along the A1 Highway.
The impact caused the driver, who was amongst those who died, to lose control of the vehicle before it overturned.
At the time of the accident, the bus was carrying 45 passengers. Besides the nine fatalities, several travellers sustained injuries of varying severity.
Palapye Police Station Commander, Superintendent Koziba Phuluweni said 10 passengers who sustained serious injuries remain hospitalised. However, he noted that their conditions have improved significantly.
'We are confident that all 10 patients are now out of danger and are recuperating well whilst receiving medical treatment,' he told The Monitor.
The accident has once again highlighted the dangers posed by stray livestock on Botswana's roads, particularly along the busy A1 Highway.
Collisions involving animals continue to claim lives and cause serious injuries on this busy road.
