The deceased was being sought by police after a warrant of arrest was issued against him last Thursday His body was discovered by a passerby around 9:30am and immediately alerted the police. Upon arriving at the scene, officers identified the deceased as the man they had been looking for after he went missing for two days.
According to the Police, he was out on bail in connection with a rape case in which he was accused of raping his own daughter when she was 14 years old in December 2024.
Selebi-Phikwe Police Station commander, Superintendent Moatlhodi Makumula, revealed that they were investigating the matter as a suspected suicide.
He explained that a warrant of arrest had been issued on Thursday after the accused failed to appear before court on two occasions.
'We informed his family members that the court had issued a warrant for his arrest,' Makumula said when confirming the incident.
'From Thursday, he never returned home until he was found hanging from a tree on Saturday morning. We suspect he may have taken his own life out of fear of being arrested.'
Makumula further revealed that the deceased was also facing a murder charge, which had recently been committed to the High Court for trial. He was accused of murdering his girlfriend, who was not the mother of his daughter, in 2023.
According to Makumula, the deceased's family has since been informed of his death, whilst police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue.
