According to police, the incident was reported on Friday at around 5:30am by the 80-year-old man who was with his wife when the robbery occurred.
It is alleged that the couple was asleep when six young men forced their way into the house, assaulted them and demanded money and valuables.
Gantsi Police Station commander, Superintendent Motlamedi George, said the suspects fled with P15,000, R10,000, three mobile phones, and two firearms, a pellet gun and a shotgun.
'When searching for the suspects, we managed to recover the two firearms after they had been abandoned in the bush,' he said.
'We have since arrested two suspects, aged 34 and 40, who remain in police custody whilst investigations continue. We have also recovered two of the three stolen mobile phones.'
George added that police believe the four remaining suspects escaped with the outstanding stolen property and cash.
He appealed to members of the public, particularly those in the Gantsi area, to assist police with any information that could lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects.
George added that investigations are ongoing and efforts to trace and arrest the remaining suspects continue. He said despite being assaulted, the elderly couple was treated and released the same morning.
