The team’s coach, Tebogo Makaćana, told MmegiSport that the women's side did not do well, and it is the men's responsibility to make up for that.
“It will be criminal to have both our teams not qualifying for the tournament. We finished our preparations on Wednesday. Everything went well, and I believe that the boys are ready to put up a good fight,” he said.
Makaćana added they have prepared for the eliminations and the aim is to qualify and go all the way to win the Extravaganza. He revealed that during the last edition, his side faltered in the final, but said that will be fixed.
“Hopefully everything goes as planned, and the players stay in line, stay focused, disciplined and remain level-headed. You know a lot of things happen in Phikwe,” he added. Makaćana said he has not signed any new players and is not planning to have any additions to the team during the current transfer window.
He said team has a lot of young players who are coming up well, and should be able to handle what would be thrown at them. BDF's first clash is against Bears tonight, followed by Panthers and UB Giants on Sunday.
For his part, Police IX's newly appointed coach, Molekane Bokhutlo, said his charges are ready for battle. According to him, there is no pressure, with only a few injuries but the team is gearing up well. “Last year, we finished in position four. Regarding the signing of players, as things stand, we are expecting the completion of two key players who will really solidify the squad. But until it is done, that is when I can confirm to you,” Bokhutlo said.
“However, the players have been in the training camp with the team, and we only await administrative procedures.” Meanwhile Giants coach, Kgaola Motsumi said he expects his players to be on top of their game, led by their captain, Otsile Masitha and the pitcher, Philip Tshambane.
He stated that the plan is to book a slot and go all the way to cause an upset in Selebi-Phikwe. Motsumi added that he wants to take Giants to greater heights.
