In an interview with Mmegi Online, Montsosa confirmed that he intends to contest for a parliamentary seat in the Thamaga-Kumakwane constituency ahead of the 2029 General Election, marking a significant shift from the airwaves to public office. Montsosa claims that he was approached before the 2019 and 2024 general elections, but this time he couldn’t hold back.
Although he has confirmed that several political parties have approached him in recent months, the radio personality says he has not yet decided which political organisation he will represent.
'I have received approaches from different political parties, but I have not made a final decision on where I belong politically. What I can confirm is that I intend to contest for the Thamaga-Kumakwane constituency.' Montsosa said. The constituency holds personal significance for Montsosa, whose home village is Thamaga, where he says he hopes to give back to the community that shaped him.
Known for his warm personality and ability to connect with audiences across Botswana, Montsosa built a loyal following during his broadcasting career at Duma FM and Radio Botswana, particularly through his work on Radio Botswana’s morning program Masaasele. His departure from the station earlier this year sparked widespread speculation about his next move, with many wondering whether he would remain in the media industry or venture into a different field.
Montsosa further told Mmegi Online that politics has always been a possibility, but one he deliberately postponed until he felt the time was right. 'I have been holding back on this challenge for a long time. However, after continued encouragement from many of my followers and people who believe I can make a difference, I have decided to take this step,' he highlighted.
Montsosa acknowledged that politics is an unpredictable and demanding arena but said he is ready to embrace the responsibility that comes with seeking public office. Describing politics as a 'high-stakes chessboard,' Montsosa said he understands the complexities and pressures of the political landscape but remains motivated by a desire to serve his community.
His announcement is expected to add intrigue to the race for the Thamaga-Kumakwane constituency as political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2029 polls. Whether he joins the ruling coalition or opposition political parties remains one of the questions likely to attract public interest in the coming months. For many Batswana, Montsosa's transition represents yet another example of a well-known media personality seeking to transform public popularity into public service. As he prepares to swap the microphone for the campaign trail, the seasoned broadcaster says his focus is now on listening to the people and preparing for the journey ahead.
With his political affiliation still under wraps, all eyes will be on Montsosa's next move as Botswana's political landscape gradually begins to take shape ahead of the next general election.
