Family's suspicions led to exhumation of Kalamare woman's body

According to police, the woman allegedly collapsed weeks ago whilst intimate with her 40-year-old boyfriend. Realising that she was no longer responding, the man reportedly rushed to seek assistance from a neighbour before the pair transported her to a local clinic.
Confirming the matter in an interview with MmegiOnline, Mahalapye police station commander Superintendent Ntoko Simane said the woman was certified dead on arrival by the doctors.
'The matter was subsequently reported to the police. Family members informed investigators that the deceased had not been feeling well and had reportedly gone two days without taking her diabetes medication. Based on the information available at the time, neither the family nor the police suspected any foul play, and the body was released to the family for burial,' said Simane.
However, weeks after the burial, the family reportedly raised concerns and began questioning the cause of death. They now suspect that the woman may have been strangled.
Simane explained that the police have since engaged the District Commissioner to facilitate the exhumation process and allow for a post-mortem examination.
'The family is now adamant that the deceased may have been killed. Following their concerns, we requested the District Commissioner to authorise the exhumation of the body and the conducting of a post-mortem examination. The order has been granted, and the body will be exhumed on tomorrow (Thursday). The post-mortem results will help establish the exact cause of death,' he said.
Police investigations into the matter are continuing pending the outcome of the post-mortem examination.
