Lucara Botswana Announces Multiple Job Opportunities at Karowe Underground Mine Project

Botswana (Pty) Ltd owns the Karowe Diamond Mine in Letlhakane, which operates an Open Pit Mine and is now transitioning into the Underground operation. The envisaged underground

operation is currently undergoing construction in which two vertical shafts (Production and Ventilation) are being sunk and will be followed by lateral development and subsequent ore extraction.

To be part of the ongoing underground mine development, Lucara Botswana invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the following positions, tenable in Letlhakane.

1. UNDERGROUND CONSTRUCTION & CHEMICAL GROUTING

FOREMAN

Job Summary

Reporting to the Construction Manager, the Underground

Construction & Chemical Grouting Foreman is responsible for

supervising and coordinating underground construction and

chemical grouting activities, including grouting plant and batch plant

operations. The role ensures the effective execution of construction

and grouting work to meet project schedules, quality standards, and

safety requirements, while providing technical oversight to teams

operating in underground and surface environments

Key Responsibilities

Underground construction and chemical grouting services

Operation of grouting plants and batch plants

Supervision of construction and grouting activities

Inspection and monitoring of construction and grouting works

Safety, health, environment and quality compliance

Qualifications & Experience

BGCSE or equivalent qualification.

Competency training in Chemical Grouting, Grouting Plant

Operations and Batch Plant Operations.

A minimum of 10 years’ experience in underground

construction, of which at least five years must be in chemical

grouting, grouting plant operations and batch plant operations.

Demonstrated experience in supervising underground

construction and grouting activities.

Strong understanding of underground construction

methodologies and mining infrastructure projects.

2. SHIFT BOSS – UNDERGROUND HIGH-SPEED DEVELOPMENT

& LONG HOLE STOPING

Job Summary

Reporting to the Construction Manager, the Shift Boss – Underground

High-Speed Development & Long Hole Stoping is responsible for

supervising underground mining operations, ensuring the safe and

efficient execution of high-speed development, long-hole stoping,

and trackless mining activities. The role ensures the successful

delivery of mining and project objectives through the safe,

efficient execution of underground activities, while maintaining full

compliance with company standards, project requirements, and

industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise underground mining, construction, and chemical

grouting operations

Oversee and control grouting plant and batch plant operations

Supervise Kempi and LM90 drilling activities to ensure safety,

quality, and productivity

Oversee raise development, drop raising, and underground

construction works

Monitor operational performance and implement continuous

improvement initiatives

Drive safe work practices, operational planning, and execution of

projects

Assist with contractor oversight and performance tracking

Provide direction and on-site guidance to supervisors and

operational teams

Safety, health and environmental compliance

Qualifications & Experience

Shift Boss Certificate of Competency.

Underground Blasting Certificate.

A minimum of 10 years’ underground mining experience, with

at least five years in high-speed development, long-hole stoping

and trackless underground mining operations.

Demonstrated experience in Kempi drilling, LM90 drilling,

raise development, drop raising and underground construction

activities.

Demonstrated experience in supervising underground mining

teams and activities.

3. BUYER

Job Summary

Reporting to the Procurement Coordinator, the Buyer is responsible

for executing purchase requests for stock, non-stock, works, and

services to support mine operations. The role ensures timely

procurement, effective supplier management, and compliance with

procurement standards and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Procure goods and services in line with operational requirements

Expedite purchase orders to ensure timely delivery

Monitor and manage supplier performance

Maintain effective supplier relationships

Coordinate and support tendering processes

Track and report on procurement performance

Ensure accurate records management and documentation

Support budgeting and maintain commercial awareness

Safety, health and environment compliance

Qualifications and Experience

Diploma in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Finance,

Accounting, Commerce, or related field.

Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply Membership or

equivalent.

Minimum of 4 years’ experience in Supply Chain within a mining

or manufacturing environment.

At least 2 years’ experience in a Procurement/Purchasing role

within a mining environment.

Experience with ERP systems (SAP) will be an added advantage.

Valid Driver’s License – Class B.

4. SENIOR PROJECT PLANNER/SCHEDULER

Job Summary

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Senior Project Planner/

Scheduler is responsible for developing, planning, creating, and

managing project schedules, including schedule optimization and

updates, in accordance with the requirements and needs of all

stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Execute project planning and specialized scheduling activities

using Primavera P6

Verify progress measurements to ensure accuracy and alignment

with project baselines

Prepare and deliver detailed progress reports, including schedule

performance updates

Support estimate management processes through accurate

schedule inputs and analysis

Collect, analyze, and interpret project data to support decision

making and performance tracking

Provide expert optimization of project schedules, leveraging

advanced Primavera P6 capabilities

Safety, health and environmental compliance

Qualifications & Experience

Relevant Qualification.

Certification in Primavera P6.

Minimum of eight (8) years’ post qualification experience as a

Primavera Project Planner in a construction, engineering project

management, or underground mining environment, of which

five (5) years should have been spent planning large, complex

technical projects.

At least three (3) years’ experience as a Senior Specialist – P6

Primavera Scheduler.

Advanced proficiency in MS Project.

Specialist in Primavera P6 software.

5. PAYROLL OFFICER

Job Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Accountant – Payroll, the Payroll Officer is

responsible for administering employee compensation processes at

Lucara Botswana. This includes the generation and review of payroll

inputs, payroll calculations, and the accurate capturing of data in the

payroll system.

Payroll Administration

Stakeholder Management and Third-Party Deductions

Audit and Compliance Support

Payroll Reporting and Reconciliations

Employee Query Resolution and Support

Records Management and Documentation

Safety, health and environment compliance

Qualifications and Experience

Diploma in Accounting/AAT (Association of Accounting

Technicians) or equivalent qualification.

Membership or affiliation with BICA or other recognised

professional accounting body.

Minimum of 3 years’ post-qualification experience in a

computerised accounting environment, of which at least 2 years

should be in a similar role.

Experience with ERP systems (SAP) will be an added advantage.

6. DRIVER/MESSENGER

Job Summary

Reporting to the Administration Officer, the Driver/Messenger is

responsible for providing driving, messenger, and administrative

support services to the Underground Project. The role includes

operating and maintaining company vehicles in accordance with

company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct daily vehicle inspections and maintain roadworthy,

clean vehicles

Safely transport personnel, goods, and deliveries within required

timelines

Adhere to scheduled vehicle maintenance and servicing

requirements

Report mechanical faults promptly and ensure timely

maintenance and repairs.

Provide office messenger services

Ensure compliance with road traffic regulations and company

policies

Safety, health and environmental compliance

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum JC or BGCSE certificate (or equivalent).

Valid Botswana Driver’s Licence.

PRDP Special (Passengers) with at least 3 years’ experience.

Basic First Aid training will be an added advantage.

Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
