Serowe man faces rape charge after 'forcing' girlfriend into oral sex

Confirming the incident, Serowe Police Station Commander, Superintendent Poloko Oteng, said the suspect recently appeared before the Serowe Magistrate's Court, where he was charged with a single count of rape.
Oteng explained that although the complainant and the accused are in a romantic relationship, the incident that allegedly occurred on a recent Friday night left the woman traumatised and forced her to report the matter to the police.
According to the police commander, the victim stated that she was shocked when her boyfriend allegedly forced her to perform oral sex despite her unwillingness to do so.
“She reported that whilst forcing her to perform the act, the suspect threatened her and warned her not to bite him, saying, ‘Ote o ntome keto go direla mathata’, which translates to, ‘If you bite me, I will do something terrible to you',” said Oteng.
He said the victim was left traumatised by the ordeal and subsequently sought assistance from the police.
Oteng added that investigations into the matter are ongoing. He urged men to respect their partners' choices and emphasised that being in a relationship does not grant anyone the right to engage in sexual acts without consent.
“Consent is important in every relationship. Partners must respect each other's decisions and boundaries,” he said.
He further expressed concern over the continued rise in Gender-Based Violence (GBV) cases despite ongoing awareness campaigns and interventions aimed at encouraging respect and non-violence in relationships.
He noted that men continue to account for the majority of perpetrators in such cases and appealed to members of the public to report incidents of abuse and violence to law enforcement authorities.
