Speaking at the sponsorship unveiling at Lekidi Centre, DTCB corporate affairs manager, Macdonald Motsele said the company was pleased with its partnership with BFA.
The money will be used to sponsor the DTC Botswana Women's Championship which will be played by teams that are outside the national league, formed last season.
'Five years ago, it was just under 20 teams participating. Now we are at over 124 teams that will be participating this season. We are happy to grow the sponsorship from P1.5 million to P1.7 million,' he said.
'As we embark on this journey, we will start with our block tournaments this weekend and we have brought something new. It is not all about prize monies for the winners only but we will be doing something different. As we go out to our regions, we are going to make sure that we leave them more capacitated in terms of tools they need to play soccer. We want to ensure that we leave them with soccer balls, football nets and football kits.'
BFA president, Tariq Babitseng thanked DTCB for its gesture, adding that despite the challenging economic times, the company saw it fit to further its partnership with the football mother body.
'When school sport starts, we will start with women's football. The talent is there but we want to ensure that girls are involved in sport safely,' Babitseng said.
Meanwhile, acting BFA chief executive officer, Kago Mosinyi hailed the partnership and said it had led to the establishment of the national league last season.
'The partnership ensures that talented girls and women participate both on and off the field,' Mosinyi said.
BFA national women's football committee chairperson, Peo Keatlholetswe noted that the DTCB partnership has been instrumental in the growth of the women's game in Botswana.
'The growth of women's football that we see today did not happen overnight. It has been built through commitment, collaboration, and partnerships such as this one,' she said.
The champions will get P50,000, while losing finalists receive P35,000 while the third place side will be rewarded with P25,000, The team finishing fourth gets P10,000.
