The beneficiaries were announced by Clash of Legends co-founder and project coordinator, Sekhana 'Nandos' Koko, who said the programme remains committed to supporting members of the football community facing medical, financial and social challenges.
The initiative, which has become a key component of the annual Clash of Legends event, extends assistance to former players, supporters and community members whose lives have been impacted by various hardships.
Amongst the beneficiaries is Seboloko Khutsahalo, who lives with a medical condition and relies on crutches for mobility. Through the programme, Clash of Legends will assist with some of his medical expenses and also provide support towards securing a caretaker to help him with daily activities.
Former footballer, Tshepiso 'Sox' Molwantwa has also been selected. Molwantwa, who runs a football academy at Makwate, will receive assistance aimed at helping him develop and expand the project as he continues to nurture young talent.
Long-time Gaborone United (GU) supporter, Onalenna 'Kambala' Sekwai is another beneficiary. Well known within local football circles for his passionate support of GU, Sekwai is set to have a house built for him in Old Naledi through the initiative.
Karabo Selelo, a football supporter from Mochudi who is living with a mental health condition, will also receive assistance. The Organisers said they will first assess his living conditions before determining whether accommodation support or other interventions are required.
Former footballer, Motheo Tshimo completes the list of beneficiaries. Tshimo is facing financial and economic hardship and will receive support aimed at improving his living conditions.
Speaking during the press conference, Koko highlighted that the project continues to honour individuals who have contributed to football while ensuring that those facing difficult circumstances are not forgotten.
The beneficiary programme has become one of the defining features of the Clash of Legends initiative, which has evolved beyond being a football exhibition event into a platform for social impact and community development.
This year's beneficiaries were unveiled ahead of a rain-soaked edition of the Betway Clash of Legends held at the National Stadium on Saturday.
The tournament brought together former stars from Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs, Township Rollers and Mochudi Centre Chiefs, while also raising awareness of the initiative's charitable mission.
As the programme enters its fourth season, the organisers hope the support extended to the five beneficiaries will not only improve their lives but also demonstrate football's ability to make a meaningful difference beyond the boundaries of the pitch.
