The women’s senior national team has meanwhile reported for camp in Jwaneng to prepare for the Netball World Cup Sydney 2027 (NWC2027) qualifier in Africa.
According to information reaching MmegiSport, a meeting was held between the BONA executive committee and the men’s team management this week.
The meeting was a briefing on the current status of men’s netball and its implications for the men’s national team.
“The men’s national team activities have been put on pause until further notice. This is due to issues surrounding allegations of match fixing and also failure to complete the league,” a source said.
When asked why the men’s team has been excluded from camp, BONA president, Mpopi Moatlhodi, explained that there is a matter that needs to be resolved that affects some of the men’s teams.
She added that the association is also financially constrained.
Meanwhile, the women’s team training camp started on Monday and ends tomorrow (Saturday). “The plan is to have the team train together for a few days every month until we go for the qualifiers. There is only one thing we want: to qualify for the World Cup. “Of course, preparing for the qualifications comes with huge costs,” Moatlhodi said.
Qualifying for the World Cup is one of the deliverables that BONA set for the coach, Martha Mosoahle-Samm, when she was appointed. “I cannot answer for her, but she is aware of that, and she is also working towards that key deliverable,” Moatlhodi said. The NWC2027 qualifier Africa will take place from September 19 to 26 in Kenya. Two teams will qualify from the event to be invited to compete at the NWC2027.
The teams will join six already qualified teams, being Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, England, South Africa, and Uganda, who all qualified based on their World Netball World Ranking as of December 1, 2025.
The team Gloria Adeeoni, Hildah Binang, Keletso Gontho, Patience Kebatenne, Teedzani Kebadile, Charity Maswikiti, Letang Mogotlhwane, Kearoma Maipelo Mosotho, Ntebogang Motlakaloso, Barati Phesodi, Shanice Phutimpe, Kefilwe Ragono, Boikanyo Selogetso, Gomolemo Serare, and Maungo Simone.
