Softball leadership accused of nepotism

The positions for senior men coaches were not advertised, whilst positions for senior women and Under-23 were advertised. Hence the association has been accused of nepotism after Gomolemo Tshelametsi was appointed senior men's assistant coach.
The assistant coach is related to the BSA secretary general, Same Molete and the technical development officer, Romeo Tshelametsi.
Molete MmegiSport that there is nothing wrong with appointing a relative, as long as the person is deserving.
“I did not do the appointment alone; it is a collective responsibility of the entire NEC. If we still have the mentality that a relative cannot be hired, it will delay progress,” she said. Molete noted the coaches were hired looking at their track record. She explained that positions were not advertised because an advertised position is attached to a salary.
Regarding the addition of Masego Morake as the women's assistant coach, Molete said her appointment serves as a motivation to other women to become coaches. “We have a few women coaching, and we hope that with the appointment of Morake, we will see the pool of women coaches increasing. “We are also planning to host a coaches' training clinic that will be open to all coaches soon,' she reasoned. Molete added that the contracts for the new coaches will run for three years for the sake of continuity, and that means even if the current NEC leaves office, the coaches will continue with their work.
Men's coach, Tebogo Macajana, appointed in 2024 for four years still has a running contract, and according to sources, despite the recent changes, his position was unaffected.
However, Molete said she was not aware of any running contract with Macajana. “Macajana was appointed Under-23 boys team coach and even travelled with the team to Kenya last year. We also do not have any contract that takes four years. He is not part of the senior men's team,” she said. Despite the denial, MmegiSport is in possession of an appointment letter signed by former BSA secretary general Dr Nozie Malunga-Payet, addressed to the BNSC CEO.
The appointment letter states that the contract is still active. Contacted for comment, Macajana declined to shed light on the matter. “My focus and attention are currently on BDF IX. We have a very packed and hectic schedule already this year, and my mind is solely on that,” Macajana said.
