The discovery brought an end to a two-day search for the man, whose disappearance had sparked concern among family members and residents.

Following the recovery of the body, rumours circulated within the community suggesting that the deceased may have been killed and thrown into the pond. However, police have dismissed the allegations after a post-mortem examination was conducted at the scene.

Confirming the incident in an interview with this publication, Martins' Drift Assistant Police Station Commander, Assistant Superintendent Uyapo Koketso, said the findings of the pathologist ruled out any suspicion of murder.

'We do not suspect any foul play because a post-mortem examination was conducted at the scene in the presence of village leadership and members of the community, and the pathologist cleared any doubts,' Koketso said.

He explained that the deceased was discovered by a villager who had taken his goats to the pond to drink water. The villager noticed the body submerged in the water and immediately alerted the police.

Police attended the scene and recovered the body. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing, although authorities have indicated that there is currently no evidence suggesting criminal involvement.
