The Francistown-based side has been under the management of a company, with Petro Hyper owning 90% whilst the society owned 10%. The partnership was meant to make TAFIC a competitive side once again, and it almost delivered the first-ever league trophy in 2025. However, the marriage has since come to an end, with the society now in full control once again following the departure of Petro Hyper.
Recently, the majority shareholders reportedly wrote a letter informing the society about the lapse of the management contract. According to the spokesperson of the society, Jones Mosweu, the letter informed them about the handing over of the management of the team back to the society. He said they have since responded, asking for a meeting so that the two parties could iron out a few issues.
“As we speak, yes, almost everything is back here with us (society). We are waiting to meet with the other party to iron out a few things. In the meantime, we have called a special general meeting with the general membership of the club to inform them about the current developments,” Mosweu said.
He said the meeting is meant to brief the general membership about the current state of the club and possibly get the mandate on the way forward. The end of the marriage between the Petro Hyper and TAFIC has come as a shock to some, particularly after the two parties nearly delivered the first ever league trophy for the club. TAFIC finished second to Gaborone United (GU) in the 2024–2025 season and only surrendered the title towards the end. This past season, they struggled to maintain their form and were at some point amongst the relegation candidates. However, they re-grouped and managed to finish in position nine.
