Athlone receives P70,000 medical boost

The consignment, handed over on Tuesday morning, comprised medication used in the management of high blood pressure, hypertension, cholesterol-related conditions and diabetes. Speaking during the handover ceremony, Farouk Ismail Group (Pty) Ltd Managing Director, Mr Faizel Ismail, said his decision to support the hospital was driven by his strong ties to Lobatse, where he was born and raised. 'Being born and raised in Lobatse inspired me to give back to the community that shaped me,' Ismail said. 'We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of you here at Athlone who are trying to make it work in these tough times.

We hope that you can accept our donation to assist the hospital and the people of Lobatse,' he added. The donation forms part of the company's ongoing community support initiatives. Recently, the company also donated medical equipment to Princess Marina Hospital in Gaborone. Receiving the donation on behalf of the hospital, Anthlone matron expressed gratitude to the Farouk Ismail Group, noting that the contribution had come at a critical time. 'We want to thank the Ismail Group for extending a hand. We all know what the country is currently facing in terms of shortages of drugs that we dearly need.

We want to assure you that the donation you have given us is in good hands and it will reach where it is supposed to assist,' she said. She added that the donation would help strengthen the hospital's efforts to provide quality healthcare services to patients who rely on the facility for treatment.

Athlone Hospital, one of the country's oldest health institutions, serves Lobatse and surrounding areas, providing a range of specialist and general healthcare services to thousands of patients annually. The donation comes at a time when public health facilities across the country continue to grapple with medicine shortages, prompting calls for increased collaboration between government, the private sector and other stakeholders to ensure uninterrupted access to essential healthcare services.
