The two forwards have developed one of the most exciting individual contests in local football, consistently pushing each other in the race for goals over the past few seasons.
Going into the last round of matches played on Saturday, both players were tied on 16 goals, setting up a dramatic finale in the race for the top goal scorer’s award.
However, Sesinyi ultimately emerged victorious after producing a stunning four-goal performance to seal the award in emphatic fashion.
Kgamanyane, on the other hand, scored a brace as GU defeated BDF XI 2-1, but his efforts were not enough to close the gap.
Despite missing out on the individual accolade, Kgamanyane remained gracious in defeat and congratulated his rival while expressing satisfaction with his own contribution to GU’s successful campaign.
“A tough season for me. I had injuries, but overall I think I did well looking at the goals I contributed for the team,” Kgamanyane said after the match.
“It’s unfortunate that I didn’t take it, but our competition will drag on for some time looking at our age. I am happy for him and congratulations to him. Most importantly, I am happy that I helped my team win the league,” he added.
Kgamanyane’s comments reflect the mutual respect that has developed between the two strikers even as they continue to compete fiercely on the pitch. Both players have become key figures for their respective clubs and amongst the most reliable goal scorers in the Botswana Premier League.
For GU, the disappointment of missing out on the golden boot was softened by the club’s league triumph. The Reds have enjoyed a strong season, with Kgamanyane playing a crucial role in attack despite struggling with injuries at different stages of the campaign.
His ability to still finish amongst the league’s top scorers highlights his importance to the team and underlines why he remains one of the most feared forwards in the domestic game.
Sesinyi’s late burst, however, proved decisive. Scoring four goals on the final day against Township Rollers not only secured him the golden boot but also capped an impressive individual season for the Galaxy striker yet again.
His clinical finishing and consistency in front of goal ensured that he edged ahead in what had been a tightly contested race.
The rivalry between the two strikers has added excitement to the local league in recent years, with supporters often comparing their styles and impact for club and country.
While Sesinyi walked away with the individual prize this time around, Kgamanyane believes the competition between them is only beginning.
With both players still in their prime years, local football fans can expect the battle for goals between Kgamanyane and Sesinyi to continue for many seasons to come. Sesinyi is 33 years while Kgamanyane is three years younger.
