A 2-0 victory over Mochudi Centre Chiefs at the Lobatse Sports Complex completed a dramatic escape for the side many had already written off weeks ago.

“I think we did the unthinkable,” Madivenga said after the match. “People wrote us off maybe 10 games ago, but we kept believing,” he added.

For the coach, survival means more than simply staying in the league. He believes it gives the club a chance to rebuild, attract support and stabilise after a difficult season.

“These supporters are our first investors,” he said. “If supporters come back to the stadium, half the problems are solved.”

Chiefs controlled possession for large parts of the game, but Gunners looked more dangerous on the counter attack. Kesekile Chivese threatened early before goalkeeper Kabelo Maphakela was forced into several saves.

The breakthrough came in the 25th minute when Monty Enosa turned Tapiwa Sepatela’s cross into his own net. Boris Djangone doubled the lead two minutes before halftime after winning a 50-50 challenge before calmly finishing past Maphakela.

Chiefs created chances after the break, but poor finishing and disciplined defending helped Gunners protect their lead until the final whistle. Madivenga said the team approached the match knowing pressure would define the occasion.

“We allowed Chiefs the ball and focused on catching them on transition. The important thing was getting the result,” he said.

The coach also credited mentality for the survival escape. “I told the players to fight for their lives, for their futures and for better opportunities,” he added.
