For Black Lions and Extension Gunners, survival will come down to one final afternoon where every mistake could carry the team to the dusty grounds. Whilst newly crowned champions Gaborone United (GU) prepare for a celebratory home fixture, the spotlight has shifted to the relegation battle, where nerves, pressure, and permutations have taken over.

One club will breathe easier by Saturday evening, whilst the other will be heading down.

Black Lions begin the weekend in 13th position with 24 points, two points below Gunners, who occupy the final relegation spot. For Dibata, this has been a season of constant struggle. In their first ever campaign in elite football, they have found life in the top flight unforgiving, particularly in attack.

Their return of just 14 goals in 28 matches is the lowest in the league and has left them constantly chasing games with little room for error. That lack of firepower has defined their season.

Still, survival remains firmly in their hands as Black Lions host already relegated Santa Green at VTM Arena in what is effectively a must-win encounter. Santa Green’s fate was confirmed after a difficult campaign in which they collected just 18 points and conceded the highest number of goals in the league.

Their recent form also reflects a side whose confidence has long faded, with defeats continuing to pile up in the closing stages of the season.

On paper, it is the fixture Black Lions would have wanted. But pressure has a way of changing matches. Dibata's victory will not guarantee survival as a Gunners draw or win could spell doom.

Their own recent form offers little comfort. One win, one draw and three defeats in the last five matches tell the story of a side still searching for consistency at the worst possible time.

Gunners, meanwhile, arrive at the final day with belief beginning to return. Only a few weeks ago, Gunners appeared destined for relegation.

Now, after a timely improvement in form, they have given themselves a genuine chance of escaping the drop. Two wins in their last three games have revived hopes in Lobatse, and the club’s experience in navigating difficult situations could yet prove decisive.

But their final assignment is far from straightforward. Standing between Gunners and survival is Mochudi Centre Chiefs, who travel the Lobatse Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon. Chiefs have enjoyed a strong second half of the campaign and remain one of the league’s most organised sides.

Their recent run has included important victories and consistent performances, making them dangerous opponents despite having little left to fight for in the standings.

For Gunners, the equation is clear. They must win, which will spell doom for Black Lions. A draw may not be enough, whilst defeat would almost certainly seal their fate.

Goal difference could also become decisive. Black Lions have conceded 35 goals whilst Gunners have shipped 43, leaving very little margin for comfort on either side.

Elsewhere, Matebele FC host Sua Flamingoes this evening at GU Stadium in the opening fixture of the weekend. Tomorrow, champions GU will look to celebrate their title in front of home supporters when they face BDF XI at GU Stadium.

Township Rollers and Jwaneng Galaxy clash in what promises to be an entertaining encounter at the National Stadium, whilst Police XI travel to Palapye to face Morupule Wanderers.

In Francistown, TAFIC and Calendar Stars meet in a derby clash at the Francistown City Council Stadium, whilst Orapa United and Nico United face off in the battle of the north at Lucara Stadium.
