Excitement is in the air as Major Moves Comedy brings two special events featuring the internationally-celebrated Ugandan comedian, Dr. Hilary Okello. The organisors are bringing Okello's acclaimed African comedy tour, Jokes From Far Away, to Botswana this June as the continental laughter movement continues its successful journey across Africa.

Having already entertained to sold out audiences in Eswatini, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Africa, Uganda, and Zambia, the tour now heads here for two highly anticipated comedy showcases featuring some of the region’s top comedic talent.

The Botswana leg of the tour will kick off on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at Nuestra Casa Lounge (Molapo Crossing) in Gaborone before heading to Cresta Marang Gardens in Francistown on Friday, June 5, 2026.

It will be hosted by Botswana’s very own international comedian, Thapelo Malani who shares a long-standing comedy relationship with Okello after previously performing in Uganda at shows hosted by the Ugandan star in Soroti and Kampala.

Comedy lovers in Gaborone can look forward to performances from local acts; Zoe Kgasa and Boldwin Ramokate, while the Francistown edition will feature Augustus Phillemon and Bafana ‘Ribcracker’ Letsatsi.

Speaking about the Botswana stop, Okello expressed excitement about returning to Southern Africa and continuing to build comedy connections across the continent.

“Comedy is a universal language, and the ‘Jokes From Far Away’ tour is about bringing African people together through laughter, culture, and shared experiences. Botswana has incredible talent and amazing audiences, and I’m excited to finally bring this tour here,” he said.

The tour aims to celebrate African comedy while fostering collaboration amongst comedians from different countries and growing the live comedy industry across the continent.

Audiences can expect an unforgettable night of sharp storytelling, cultural observations, crowd interaction, and high-energy performances from some of Africa’s funniest voices.

“We promise a truly enjoyable, relaxing and funny event with this production,' says events coordinator Gaolathe Kediemetse.

“We have a fresh new lineup, fresh new headliner and people must come and experience the best and ultimate entertainment from beginning to the end. Come ready for laughter and experience an evening where comedy meets culture.'

Tickets for the comedy shows are available at Webtickets, Spar outlets and Cresta Marang Gardens. The shows will start at 8pm.
