In a message of condolence issued on behalf of the authority, Tshabang described Mogae as a distinguished statesman whose leadership, wisdom and dedication to public service played a significant role in shaping Botswana’s economic and institutional development.
“We join the nation in mourning the loss of a remarkable leader who devoted his life to serving Botswana with integrity, humility and vision. His contribution to nation-building and his steadfast commitment to good governance will remain part of his enduring legacy,” said Tshabang.
He said Mogae’s leadership laid a strong foundation for Botswana’s growth and stability, noting that his tenure as president was marked by prudent governance, economic discipline and a commitment to accountability that earned the country international respect.
Tshabang further stated that Mogae’s influence extended beyond politics, as his values of excellence, discipline and service continue to inspire institutions across Botswana.
“His legacy will continue to guide future generations of leaders and public servants. As BERA, we recognise and honour his immense contribution to the development of Botswana and the strengthening of institutions that continue to serve the public interest,” he said.
He extended BERA’s deepest sympathies to the Mogae family, friends, and the nation during this difficult time.
“We pray for comfort and strength for his loved ones and all Batswana as we come to terms with this great loss. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Tshabang added.
The late former president is set to be laid to rest this Saturday at Phomolong, Phakalane, with the nation expected to gather to pay its final respects to one of Botswana’s most respected leaders.
Mogae, who served as Botswana’s third president, is remembered for his calm leadership style and his contribution to advancing Botswana’s socio economic development during his time in office.
