COSAFA holds its elective congress on Sunday, but Babitseng is unopposed for the position. He will succeed Angolan Artur de Almeida e Silva, who has been at the helm since 2022.
In a recent press statement, the BFA said the occasion marks a transformation for Botswana football.
'Today, we celebrate a moment of pride and purpose. On May 17 in Harare, Zimbabwe, president Babitseng will be elected the next president of COSAFA, standing uncontested, a rare and powerful reflection of the trust he has earned across all 14 member nations,' the football body stated. 'Whilst the formal election takes place on May 17, the message from Southern Africa is already clear: president Babitseng is the man to lead our region into a new era of football development, unity, and growth. He will take his place amongst key decision-makers in CAF and FIFA, shaping tournaments, directing funding, and ensuring our zone is never overlooked,' the BFA statement further reads.
BFA added that through the FIFA Forward programme, Babitseng's focus will be on youth talent, women's football, and upgrading infrastructure across all 14 nations.
'President Babitseng has always put himself out there for Batswana; now he will do the same for the entire region. Expect commercialised competitions, long-term broadcasting and sponsorship deals, and a financially sustainable future for COSAFA.'
Other than the presidency, the position of vice president and the executive seat reserved for women are uncontested following eligibility plus integrity checks. Alfred Randriamanampisoa from Madagascar is unopposed for vice president, whilst Zambian Brenda Kunda is unopposed for the reserved women’s seat.
