He explained that the suspect, a 22-year-old man residing in the same yard as the victim, allegedly destroyed the padlock on the teenager's house to gain entry.

'The victim's mother working as a vendor had gone out to sell food in front of a local bar as usual,' Ramaphoi said.

'The suspect allegedly destroyed the locked padlock, got into the house where the teenage girl was sleeping alone and subsequently raped her.'

Ramaphoi stated that the suspect was arrested the same morning and he is currently in police custody for the investigation.

He added that the suspect has been charged with rape and will soon appear before Broadhurst Magistrate's Court for arraignment.
