Confirming the incident, Mahalapye Central Police Station acting commander, Superintendent Malakia Gabana, said police received a report of the matter at around 8pm on Sunday.

Gabana said the incident occurred near the Kwape cattle post, about two kilometres from Mahalapye.

“We suspect it was a hit-and-run accident because the man was found by another motorist lying on the road with injuries suggesting that he had been hit by a vehicle.

'We suspect that the driver who hit him failed to report the accident and fled the scene,” he said.

He added that investigations into the matter are ongoing, and police have launched a manhunt for the driver responsible for the fatal accident.

According to Gabana, the deceased had no form of identification in his possession, making it difficult for police to establish his identity.

“We are pleading with families who may have a missing relative, particularly from Kwape cattlepost and surrounding areas, to contact Mahalapye Police Station to assist with identifying the deceased,” he said. Furthermore, he appealed to members of the public who might have witnessed the accident to help with any information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrator.
