It featured three panel discussions led by Usher’s family members and close friends, who shared personal stories and reflections on her life journey.

Their heartfelt tributes celebrated the resilience and growth behind the woman and writer she has become.

Taking to the stage afterwards, Usher candidly unpacked the deeply personal experiences that inspired the book.

In Dear Younger Me, she reflects on regret, heartbreak, loss, and healing, turning painful experiences into lessons intended to guide young girls and women through issues of identity, self-worth, decision-making, and emotional recovery.

Usher revealed that the book began as personal journal entries she wrote during her adolescent years as a form of therapy. Each entry started with the words “Dear Nandi,” allowing her to process emotions, experiences, and inner struggles in private.

“I used it to heal myself,” she said, explaining that over time she realised those deeply personal reflections could be transformed into a book capable of helping others navigate their own healing journeys.

“Because we go through a lot. Some things we don’t even talk about,” she added.

The author admitted that she initially delayed releasing the book because of fear and embarrassment surrounding her experiences.

“The reason I didn’t want to release it when I was in my 20s is that there was a lot of embarrassment from everything that I have been through. I didn’t want people to know my story,” she said.

Now more confident in her healing journey, Usher said she chose to embrace vulnerability in the hope of helping others feel seen and understood.

The evening also featured the surprise announcement of a companion children’s title, The Little Book of Me, which includes colouring pages and reflective exercises aimed at encouraging self-discovery among younger readers.

Beyond the book itself, the launch highlighted Usher’s commitment to community empowerment through collaborations with young entrepreneurs and local small businesses involved in the event.

Usher also revealed that she is already working on a follow-up to Dear Younger Me, signalling the beginning of a larger storytelling journey.

The successful launch of Dear Younger Me introduces a raw and relatable voice into Botswana’s wellness and personal development space.

Through honesty and vulnerability, Nandi Odri Usher has transformed personal pain into a message of healing and hope for many young women.
