The feat came after Red Roses, as the team is known, edged rivals Double Action FC 2–1 in a tense city derby played at GU Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The win moves GU top of the table and tightens their grip on a dramatic title race. In a season defined by constant momentum shifts, GU’s rise feels like the moment everything had been building toward.

For much of the campaign, BDF XI dictated the pace from the top, while Jwaneng Galaxy FC lurked dangerously with explosive goal margins and games in hand. Now, with only a few matches left, the balance has finally tilted.

From the weekend’s win, GU sit level on 40 points with BDF XI but lead on a staggering goal difference of 177, powered by 182 goals scored as numbers underline just how ruthless the team has been this season.

The derby against Double Action was not a free-flowing showcase. It was tense, physical, and mentally demanding, exactly the kind of match that decides titles.

GU struck first through Jessica Maponga in the 16th minute, a composed finish that settled early nerves. Double Action responded in the 29th minute from a corner, punishing a lapse in concentration and briefly shifting the momentum.

But GU reset quickly with Gaonyadiwe Ontlametse restoring the lead in the 35th minute, finishing off a slick move involving Jessica Modise. From there, the leaders managed the game with growing authority rather than flair.

While GU celebrated, BDF XI were left waiting after their fixture against Gantsi Swallows was postponed--another frustrating interruption in a tightly contested race.

Elsewhere, Jwaneng Galaxy FC sent a brutal reminder of their attacking power, dismantling Western Zebras 15–0 in one of the season’s most one-sided results. Their goal tally now stands at 139, keeping them firmly in third place on 36 points but still mathematically alive.

Zodiac Collabo Girls continued their steady rise with a 5–0 win over EL Pots, while Royal Fighters FC secured a convincing 4–0 victory over Makgabz City to stay in top-half contention.

For the first time this season, Red are no longer the hunters they are the hunted. And with just three matches remaining, including a looming showdown with BDF XI at GU Stadium, the title race has entered its final, unforgiving phase.
