Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Pharithi has been offered a two-year secondment following a rigorous and highly competitive international selection process conducted by the United Nations Department of Peace Operations (UNDPO). The process attracted candidates from across the globe, with only seven officers ultimately shortlisted for the position.

Notably, SACP Pharithi distinguished herself as the only female candidate and the sole representative from Africa among the shortlisted officers.

Her appointment follows a process that began in May 2023 when a cohort of Botswana Police Service officers was selected to apply for secondment opportunities at the United Nations. Her successful selection is a remarkable achievement not only for her personally, but also for the Botswana Police Service and Botswana as a nation.

The Commissioner of Police, Commissioner Dinah Marathe, has congratulated Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police, Diphontsho Pharithi, on her appointment and wished her success as she embarks on the international assignment.

Commissioner Marathe stated that the appointment is a testament to the Botswana Police Service’s capabilities, professionalism, and expertise, which continue to receive recognition beyond the country’s borders. She noted that the achievement demonstrates the high calibre of officers within the BPS and their ability to compete effectively at the highest international levels.

The Commissioner further expressed confidence that Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Pharithi’s appointment will open doors for more officers to secure positions in International Organisations such as the United Nations, the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the African Union, and other Global Institutions.

She emphasised that such opportunities contribute significantly to the growth and exposure of officers while also positioning Botswana as a contributor to International Peace, Security, and Policing excellence.

Commissioner Marathe added that the Botswana Police Service remains committed to developing officers who are capable of representing the country with distinction on both regional and international platforms.

The Botswana Police Service joins the nation in celebrating Senior Assistant Commissioner Pharithi’s achievement and wishes her well as she takes up her new responsibilities at the United Nations Headquarters.
