Starting at 11 am, the event aims to spotlight hidden stars from across Kweneng and surrounding villages, offering a platform for performers of all ages to shine. From powerful vocalists and energetic dancers to choirs, comedians, poets, and even magicians, the show is shaping up to be a dynamic showcase of community talent. Event organisers say the initiative goes beyond entertainment, but it’s about discovery, empowerment, and giving people a stage they might not otherwise have.
“There is so much untapped talent in our communities. This event is about giving people an opportunity to be seen and heard. You never know who might be the next big name, so we want to be the platform that helps uncover that,” the organisers of the show told this publication.
Adding a cultural twist, the competition will also feature special categories, including the traditional mokoto cuisine competition, though this remains subject to restrictions due to Foot and Mouth (FMD) disease. If regulations are not relaxed in time, organisers say the category will unfortunately be dropped. Another unique highlight is a culinary contest in which participants will compete to prepare the beloved Setswana dish bogobe ba lerotse with morogo wa Setswana, blending heritage with competition.
“It’s important for us not only to celebrate modern talent but also to preserve and promote our culture. Food, dance, and storytelling are all part of who we are.” The day will be hosted by comedian Mawee, bringing humour and energy to the stage, while musician Young Black will lend his expertise as a judge in the music category. Attendees can also look forward to live performances by Nono Siile, Mmurubele, and Zama Zama Ndoda.
With prizes of P500 for first place, P300 for second, and P100 for third, the stakes are high, but organisers insist the real reward is exposure and experience. Registration closes on May 10, with entry fees set at P50 for solo acts and P100 for groups. Spectators can enjoy the full day of entertainment for just P50. “We encourage everyone to take part, young or old, experienced or just starting. This is your moment. Talent lives here in Thamaga, and it’s time the world sees it,” the organisers emphasised.
