According to Palapye Police Station commander, Superintendent Koziba Phuluweni, the accident was reported at around 8 pm. He explained that the children were passengers in a VW Polo that hit a cow, then veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a Toyota GD6.
The driver of the VW Polo, a 44-year-old man, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Sidilega Private Hospital, where he remains hospitalised receiving treatment.
Phuluweni stated that the vehicle had four minors on board. The two deceased girls, both from Extension 4 in Palapye, died on the scene.
Two other passengers, aged 10 and 13, who also appear to be siblings and reside in Gaborone North, sustained left leg fractures and are currently receiving treatment at Palapye Primary Hospital.
He further noted that all five occupants of the Toyota GD6 escaped with minor injuries and were treated and discharged the same night.
