BACK-TO-BACK CHAMPIONS: FNB Premiership title winners, Gaborone United PIC.PHATSIMO KAPENG

Kickoff is at 7pm. Although many have already declared the fixture a dead rubber, the encounter still promises to be a crowd puller considering that Moyagoleele supporters did not get the chance to celebrate being champions last week.

GU needed three points against TAFIC in the last fixture to wrap up the title, with champagne already on ice. But they suffered a 2-0 loss in Francistown, thus denying them a chance to celebrate back-to-back league glory in front of their supporters. Later that day, closest contenders for the title, Jwaneng Galaxy dropped points, thus handing the league to GU. This evening, GU supporters are expected to fill up the Gaborone United stadium to celebrate the milestone. And it could not have happened at a better time than when they play against another crowd puller, Magosi who despite failing to win the league, still have a chance to finish second. Chiefs are currently sitting at position three with 53 points with three round of matches left. Galaxy are currently second on the log with 55 points and host Matebele tomorrow with battle for the second place finish now in full swing. In other interesting encounters scheduled for today, Calendar Stars, presently languishing at the bottom of the log, host Extension Gunners at Francistown Council stadium at 3.30pm.

The result of the match could have a significant impact on how the relegation battle pans out at the end of the season. At least eight teams mathematically are still in danger of going down with three matches left for each of them. Gunners are sitting on position 14 with 23 points after dropping one place down following their draw against BDF XI last week. The result against BDF XI saw them hand over position 13 to Black Lions who recorded a vital win against Calendar Stars. Lions this afternoon face Police XI at GU stadium. Santa Green, currently occupying position 15 also face a mammoth task at home against Orapa United. Nico United take on TAFIC at Sam Sono stadium. Tomorrow, Sua Flamingoes host Morupule Wanderers while BDF XI and Township Rollers lock horns at VTM Arena.
