The regions form BFA's electoral college, and are key in determining the mother body's leadership. The writ of election for the organisation’s regional election was issued this week, one of the key steps towards the 2028 elective congress.
BFA president, Tariq Babitseng got 24 votes during the previous elective congress in 2024, and is expected to face challenge in the next election.
There are reports of simmering discontent within the association, and the upcoming regional election could provide a key compass of where the 2028 pendulum could swing.
A correspondence to BFA structures issued by the Electoral Committee chairperson, Thapelo Resheng indicated that the elections will be held within 21 working days, from the date of the writ (25 April).
'All members are therefore, notified that in the next 21 days working days, elections shall be held in accordance with Article 26 of the BFA Constitution as read with Article 10 of the Electoral Code,' Resheng said.
The first BFA structure to hold elections will be the National Women's Committee on May 28.
The western block, that comprises Gantsi, Tsabong, Hukuntsi and Kang Regional Football Associations, will hold their elections between May 30 and 31.
Kweneng, Kgatleng, South East and Gaborone City Regional Football Associations will also hold their elections over the same dates.
Selebi-Phikwe and Central North Regional Football Association delegates will vote on May 30, whilst Tswapong and Central South regions will hold their poll on May, 31.
The Southern Region will have its elections in Kanye on June 6, while First Division North will be in Palapye and their First Division South counterparts will hold theirs in Gaborone on the same day.
The northern block, that has Chobe, Boteti, Okavango, Makgadikgadi, Nhabe, and Francistown Regional Football Associations will be at the ballot on June 13 and 14.
'Candidates seeking to stand for the structural elections are invited to complete the nomination and eligibility criteria forms and submit all relevant supporting documentation for their intended position to the general secretariat on or before May 6, 2026,' the correspondence from the Elections Committee reads.
