According to police, the incident was reported at around 6:30 am. Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased had been sleeping inside his vehicle, which was parked within the bar premises, when the fatality occurred.
Mogoditshane Police Station acting commander, Assistant Superintendent Mompoloki Ramaphoi, confirmed that a 25-year-old man driving a VW Golf lost control of the vehicle before crashing into the stationary car.
“The driver is suspected to have been speeding at the time of the accident,” said Ramaphoi.
The victim was rushed to Nkoyaphiri Clinic, where he was certified dead on arrival.
Police further revealed that the driver was tested for alcohol consumption shortly after the incident, and results showed that his blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit.
The 25-year-old suspect currently in police custody has since been charged with causing death by careless driving. He is expected to appear before the Broadhurst Magistrate's Court sometime this week for arraignment.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
