Mogoditshane Police Station acting commander, Assistant Superintendent Mompoloki Ramaphoi, told The Monitor that the police received a report of the accident at around 10 am.
Ramaphoi explained that a Toyota Hilux, driven by a 23-year-old man, lost control before crashing into the family’s yard.
“After hitting the wall, the vehicle subsequently hit the teenage girl, leaving her with a fractured right thigh,” he said.
The injured girl was rushed to Princess Marina Hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment whilst hospitalised.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
“He was tested following the accident, and his alcohol level was beyond the required limit. He is currently in police custody as investigations continue and will soon be arraigned before the Broadhurst Magistrate's Court,” Ramaphoi added.
He further appealed to motorists to refrain from drinking and driving, warning that such reckless behaviour continues to cause preventable accidents, some of which result in fatalities.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
