BoFiNeT connects Debswana World Athletics Relays

The two telecommunications companies will facilitate state-of-the-art connectivity and international broadcast in support of the Local Organising Committee (LOC). This milestone partnership underscores MCI’s commitment to positioning Botswana as a high-profile global event. BTCL has provided both in-kind connectivity solutions and a cash sponsorship, to a total value of over P3 million.

As part of the sponsorship, BTCL will deliver high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity at the National Stadium, UB Stadium and public Wi-Fi, reliable connectivity for the LOC, mobile connectivity for seamless communication for hosting both local and international athletes and a monetary contribution of P500,000.

BoFiNeT will provide a dedicated 10Gbps high-capacity internet connection, as well as comprehensive fibre and structured cabling for the National Stadium and associated venues, all valued at over P830,000.

The sponsorship by the two companies will deliver the world-class broadcast and stringent operational standards that characterise World Athletics events.

Confirming the sponsorship, the acting Minister of Communications and Innovation, Shawn Ntlhaile, highlighted the broader impact of the partnership, saying that by showcasing a hub for connectivity and innovation.

“The infrastructure we deploy and the expertise we contribute will leave a lasting capability that strengthens our local ICT sector and builds capacity for future international events,” he said.

“In addition, Botswana pride herself with worldclass ICT infrastructure assets that matches international standards, like our national data centre, the Digital Delta Data Centre (DDDC), a Tier III Up Time certified data centre owned and operated by BoFiNeT.”
