According to Broadhurst Traffic Officer, Assistant Superintendent Matlhogonolo Baraedi, police received a report of the incident at around 1 am. The deceased was the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the accident.
Preliminary investigations suggest the driver may have been speeding and lost control upon reaching the traffic circle. Police also suspect that fatigue could have been a contributing factor.
Baraedi explained that after hitting the roundabout, the vehicle overturned, ejecting the driver. He sustained severe head injuries.
“The victim was rushed to Extension 2 Clinic, where he was certified dead on arrival by medical personnel,” Baraedi said.
Police have since launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Baraedi further urged motorists to prioritise road safety at all times, particularly by wearing seat belts, which can significantly reduce the risk of fatal injuries in the event of a crash.
