Addressing the media today on the status of the party and the just-ended budget meeting, Kekgonegile stated that BCP has not been rocked by any factions at the moment.

“We don’t have factions as yet in BCP,” Kekgonegile said. As the main opposition party, Kekgonegile said the party is trying by all means to avoid the ideologies of factionalism, as it can make or break the party.

“We are trying by all means not to have factions in BCP, given that challenges can be detrimental in destroying an organisation,” he said. With questions raised if the lobby lists catalyse the conceptualisation of factions, Kekgonegile brushed off the claims, highlighting that the concept has always been there.

“We are going to a congress, and lobby lists have always been there in BCP, and we have always managed them after elections. So lobby lists are just there for us to assist each other by putting in our efforts together,” he said.

Kekgonegile, who is also a Member of Parliament (MP) for Maun East, said the lobby lists only serve one purpose, which is to canvass for votes.

“Immediately after elections, the lobby lists disband. Then, as the party, we just continue and move on,” he said. However, in light of this, Kekgonegile revealed that there is a fear within the party that lobby lists might lead to factions, and to curb this, the party is considering striking them out.

“There are discussions within the party that maybe the lobby lists will ultimately lead to factions. Why don’t we do away with lobby lists in elections so that everyone campaigns for themselves?” he rhetorically asked.

Despite that, Kekgonegile said in the past the party has always come out of the congress united more than ever.
