At the core of Orange Botswana’s strategy is a focus on network excellence and digital ecosystem expansion.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Orange communications seminar, Orange Botswana Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Yves Famien told BusinessMonitor that Orange is accelerating investments in 5G, fibre, and overall network infrastructure to enhance coverage, speed, and reliability nationwide.
He said this infrastructure push is complemented by the growth of its digital platforms, including Orange Money and the Max It App, which are designed to provide integrated financial and lifestyle services that extend beyond traditional telecom offerings.
'Customer relevance remains central to this strategy. Orange Botswana is developing tailored solutions for individuals, small and medium-sized enterprises (SME), and large organisations. By aligning its services with how Batswana live, work, and transact, the company aims to strengthen its competitive edge and sustain long-term market dominance,' he said.
The company also sees significant growth potential in Orange Money. Plans are focused on expanding the platform’s ecosystem to include a broader range of services such as payments, savings, lending, insurance, and merchant solutions. This approach is expected to deepen financial inclusion whilst creating a seamless and accessible digital financial experience.
Additionally, Orange Botswana is working to enhance interoperability, build stronger partnerships, and empower SMEs to participate fully in the digital economy.
Whilst the voice market is maturing, Orange Botswana acknowledges that there is still room for optimisation. The company is leveraging bundled offerings and improved value propositions to maintain relevance, particularly in rural and underserved areas where voice services remain critical. However, growth is increasingly being driven by data services, reflecting changing consumer behaviour.
Famien said Artificial Intelligence (AI) is emerging as a key driver of transformation within the organisation. He said Orange Botswana is leveraging AI to improve network performance through predictive maintenance and real-time optimisation, ensuring a more reliable user experience.
'AI is also enabling more personalised customer interactions, from intelligent support systems to customised product offerings and enhanced fraud detection within platforms such as Orange Money. Beyond operational improvements, AI is opening new avenues for growth. The company is exploring advanced digital solutions for businesses, including data analytics, automation, and smart services. These innovations are helping Orange transition from a traditional telecom operator into a data-driven technology company,' he said.
Further, the CMO said Orange Botswana’s broader strategy is aligned with the country’s digital transformation agenda. The company continues to invest in infrastructure and innovation whilst also prioritising social impact.
'Through initiatives led by the Orange Foundation, it is promoting digital inclusion and supporting community development,' Famien said. 'Entrepreneurship remains a key focus area, with programmes such as the Orange Social Venture Prize (OSVP) aimed at nurturing youth-led innovation.'
As part of the seminar, Orange hosted members of the media to showcase the infrastructure, services, innovations, and talent that position Orange Middle East and Africa (OMEA) as a strategic pillar for the group and a transformation partner for Africa and the Middle East. The visit included the Orange Digital Centre in Rabat, the Max It project offices, and the Nouaceur Data Centre. Journalists gained first-hand insight into how Orange has adopted advanced digital technologies and continues to play a critical role in driving digital transformation across the region.
