The victory secured an automatic promotion to the elite league after spending just two seasons in the lower division. Many had predicted the championship race would go to the wire with Prisons XI and Dinare FC fighting neck-to-neck for the better part of the second round.

However on Saturday afternoon, the Warders registered a hard-fought win over Holy Ghost, hoping to wrap up the league title in the last game of the season.

Monthe’s solitary strike in the 50th minute was enough to hand the Warders maximum points, delivering a sweet revenge on Holy Ghost who beat them in the first round.

Unknowingly, they were to be crowned champions that night after Dinare lost to Union Flamengo Santos later that night in Lobatse. Dinare’s defeat handed Prisons XI the title with one round of matches left before the end of the season.

The former have now settled for play-offs for the remaining spot in the Premier League. They will face the runners up in the First Division North league. Tonota FC, just like Prisons XI have already secured their spots in the elite league next season.

Speaking to Sport Monitor following the victory against Holy Ghost, Prisons XI head coach and former player, Tatenda Mbikiwa said it was a difficult game as expected.

“First half we were a bit slow. Our urgency was not up to scratch and we should have wrapped up the game in the first half from the few chances that we created. “At half time we told the boys that if they don’t apply patience, they will not get a goal and it came within five minutes of the second half,” he said.

Mbikiwa added that the experience helped his charges overcome pressure in these kinds of games especially at the crucial time of the season.

Meanwhile, Kweneng based-side, Majweng’s fate in the league was confirmed on Saturday when they lost 3-1 to Thamaga Shooting Stars.

With one game left to play, Majweng will still finish in position 11. They join Tsetseng United who relegated few weeks ago. Notwane managed to secure a point against Security Systems. The two former Premier League sides played to a 0-0 draw.
