1. MAINTENANCE COORDINATOR – SHAFT SERVICES

Job Summary

Reporting to the Mechanical Engineer, the Maintenance Coordinator

– Shaft Services will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and

controlling maintenance activities within the Shaft Services section to

ensure equipment availability and reduce down-time.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or

National Craft Certificate or related field

• Minimum of eight (8) years post qualification experience in a mining

environment, including substantial experience in shaft services

operations, working as a Mechanical Foreman or Supervisor

• Handson experience with shaft infrastructure, winders, conveyances,

and related mechanical systems is required

2. SHIFT BOSS

Job Summary

Reporting to the Mine Captain, the Shift Boss is responsible for supervising

all shaft-related operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant

movement of people, materials, and ore/waste between surface and

underground workings. The role ensures operational excellence through

effective workforce coordination, risk management, and adherence to

established mining standards.

Effectiveness Areas

• Oversee and supervise daily underground shaft operations

• Conduct pre-shift briefings, allocate tasks, and monitor workforce

performance

• Inspect work areas for hazards and take immediate corrective action

where necessary

• Maintain accurate shift reports, including production data, incidents,

and personnel matters

• Organize and coordinate teams, manage shift scheduling, and ensure

optimal manpower deployment

• Safety, health and environmental compliance

Qualifications and Experience

• BGCSE equivalent qualification

• Shift Boss Certificate of Competency

• Valid Underground Blasting Certificate

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in underground mining operations,

with at least 3 years in shaft operations

• Proven experience in underground production supervision

• Knowledge of mining standards and operating procedures

• Valid Class B Driver’s License

3. CONDITION MONITORING TECHNICIAN

Job Summary

Reporting to the Maintenance coordinator, the Condition Monitoring

Technician supports underground maintenance by collecting and analysing

equipment condition data. The role focuses on vibration monitoring,

oil analysis, thermographic inspections, and assisting with root cause

failure analysis to improve equipment reliability and minimise downtime.

Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma or NCC in Mechanical, Electrical, or Boiler Making

• Minimum 5–8 years postqualification experience in underground

mining operations

• At least 3 years’ experience in a similar condition monitoring or

reliability role

• Proficient in Hydraulics and Pneumatics, including fault-finding and

troubleshooting

• Strong knowledge of vibration analysis and reliability analysis

concepts

• Advanced computer skills

• Strong conceptual and analytical skills, including Root Cause

Analysis (RCA)

Lucara Botswana (Pty) Ltd owns the Karowe Diamond Mine in Letlhakane, which operates an Open Pit Mine and is now transitioning into the

Underground operation. The envisaged underground operation is currently undergoing construction in which two vertical shafts (Production and

Ventilation) are being sunk and will be followed by lateral development and subsequent ore extraction.
