DRILL AND BLAST SUPERINTENDENT

Job Summary

Reporting to the Mining Manager the incumbent will manage the Drill and Blast operations according to the agreed plan, while providing a place of work that is safe and free from risk to health and to environment with the objective of ensuring that efficiency and cost targets are met.

Key Responsibilities

Attend the daily drill and blast meetings as well as internal and external (Client) meetings associated with blasting requirements

Ensure the daily/weekly plan is followed and allocate resources (people and equipment)

Develop continuous improvement and optimization programs within drill functions

Monitor drill activities by ensuring regular inspections are undertaken and participating in Safety Meetings and trainings as required.

Ensure compliance with legislation, standards and internal policies and procedures

Ensure that hazards are identified, risks assessed and effectively controlled

Ensure adequate training is provided for all mine operations staff in ground control issues

Perform monthly safety inspections, audits and Identify areas of opportunity for improvement

Coordinate with the training department in performing training needs analysis

Ensure All Drill and Blast operations are aligned to Mines, Quarries, works and Machinery Ac and Explosives Act

Job Requirements

Diploma or Degree in mining or equivalent.

Must be registered with Engineers’ Registration Board

Valid Class B Drivers’ License

Open Cast Botswana Blasting license with 3 years blasting experience

5 years’ experience in Ground Engaging Tools (GET), drill and blasting

Computer Literacy

Familiar with use of electronic blasting systems

LOAD & HAUL SUPERINTENDENT

Job Summary

Reporting to the Mining Manager the incumbent will be required to provide strong leadership application and involvement in overseeing safety, production & labour management within the Load and Haul operation in line with Legal requirements as per MQWM Section 17.1

Key Responsibilities

Promote a culture that ensures full compliance with all applicable AMS safety standards & procedures

Familiarize with legislative, client and AMS safety and health requirements

Participate in pre-start and toolbox meetings, safety inspections with the supervisors & work crew

Ensure all incidents and accidents are reported accordingly

Knowledge of communication channels and availability of data information to be communicated

Effectively supervise the delivery of the safe production and load & haul assignments within budget, on time and to the required safety quality standards

Effectively runs a shift and responsible for production crew and productivity

Timely ensure that production schedules are executed in accordance with mine plan and relevant company policies, procedures, and safe practices

Regular follow production schedules in line with the instructions issued out by the immediate supervisor

Manage the running of entire shift

Produce per set daily, weekly, and monthly production targets

Attend planning meetings as required to align to the plan

Execute the plan as directed by the Mine Panning Engineer

Execution and monitoring of dewatering activities as per the dewatering strategy

Effectively ensure maximum utilization of manpower and plant within their respective workplaces

Ensure effective utilization of the dispatch system to manage fleet and positively impact production

Allocate resources (people and equipment and make sure they are effectively and efficiently used)

Identify areas of opportunity for improvement and provide regular feedback on performance of team and future plans to team members

Job Requirements

Diploma or Degree in Mining or equivalent

Valid Botswana Open Pit Blasting License

8 years’ experience in in an open pit environment of which 3 years should have been at supervisory level

BLASTING SUPERVISOR

Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Drill & Blast Engineer, the incumbent will assist in blasting process optimization by providing assurance across the whole D&B process. From polygons marking, cleaning, drilling quality, explosives quality, stemming and post blast results analysis.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise the overall blasting operation for Motheo project by proactively managing stakeholder relations with the client

Coordinating of AECI’s PLTs activities on behalf of AMS in order to attain drill and blasting objectives.

Compilation and implementation of charge instructions for every charging pattern by engaging with AECI crew

Provision of the required stemming equipment and material to AECI prior to charging blocks.

Monitoring and control of AECI’s stock inventory at the emulsion plant and management of magazines logistics.

Liaison with AMS drilling supervisors to ascertain satisfactory pattern preparations and drill hole quality assurance

Ensuring that blasting times are adhered to always

Compilation and recording of quality assurance reports for every blasted block

Ensuring that MMUs undergo their monthly calibration schedule

Subordinates’ effectiveness

Ensuring legal and statutory compliance to AMS SHE systems and objectives amongst your team

Job Requirements

Diploma in Mining Engineering or equivalent in an open pit environment

At least 5 years’ experience in the mining industry with use of both electronic and shock tube initiation systems

Valid Botswana Open Pit Blasting License

Valid ERB practicing certificate

Knowledge of Microsoft office

Good communicator

SENIOR MINING ENGINEER(DRILL & BLAST)

Job Summary

Reporting to the Production Engineering Manager, the successful incumbent will be required to review and implement the AMS Drill and Blast Technical standards that meet the Project commitments. This will include Drill and Blast designs and optimisations, Explosives Blasting Contractor deliverables, cost management and control.

Key Responsibilities

To develop sectional budget and optimizations of running costs

To ensure effective use of drilling systems to ensure accurate blasthole drilling

Ensure proper use of blasting systems for effective blast results

Ensure drill holes are designed to set standards

Develop and maintain systems and processes for managing and reporting drill and blast information

Improve and maintain high level QA/QC system across the drill and blast process for good blast results

Process improvement initiatives and implementation for good blast results and cost savings

To ensure effective utilization of Drilling & Blasting resources

Achieving and maintaining high Safety, Health and Environment standards.

Implementation of the departmental talent management initiatives by ensuring the right competencies and effectiveness of manpower (capacity building)

Management of the Explosives and Blasting Contractor for legal, work/contract requirements and costs control

Provide Client with monthly reports on Drilling & Blasting and technical initiatives

Assist Mine Planners in developing excellent daily, weekly and monthly plans

Ensure Client relations is managed in a cordial manner in all matters

Job Requirements

Degree/Diploma in Mining Engineering or equivalent.

Contract Mining experience (Desirable)

10 years’ experience in mining environment, 5 of which should have been at Senior Mining Engineer level

Valid Botswana Open Pit Blasting License with 5 years’ experience

Valid ERB practicing certificate

Botswana Class B driver license
