The vibrant celebration promises to be a spectacular showcase of the San community's traditions, stories, and resilience.
'We were inspired to ensure that the intangible and tangible cultural heritage of the San people is preserved, documented, promoted, and celebrated,' says Bono Mmusi, the festival's coordinator. The event is a labor of love, aimed at creating economic opportunities for the San communities while promoting their unique culture.
The festival will feature beautiful stories to be told around the fire, ritual dances, traditional cuisine, and thrilling horse racing. Visitors can also expect exhibition stalls showcasing the San's artisanal skills and cultural artifacts. 'Through documentation of cultural practices, ritual dances, and storytelling, we aim to ensure knowledge transfer from generation to generation,' Mmusi explained.
The event is a collaborative effort, with guidance from Kgosi Tshubalobone and participation from San communities across the country. 'This is an opportunity for patrons to appreciate the diversity within the San Culture and for skills and knowledge transfer amongst the different San Communities,' Mmusi says.
The festival promises entertainment, cultural exchange, networking, and safe fun. With a focus on sustainability, the organisers have implemented measures to ensure the event doesn't harm the environment. 'We have provided mobile toilets, showers, and regular litter picking to take care of the environment,' Mmusi notes.
Mopako Ranch's San Cultural Festival is the third event hosted at the venue, and the team has learned from past experiences. 'We have an event management plan with a health and safety plan embedded in it,' Mmusi assures.
The festival is a testament to the power of culture and community. It is a chance to experience the San spirit, support local communities, and create unforgettable memories.
